[S]carving trends through time

Trends come and go but there are certain statement pieces that never go out of style. Scarves are the most icon statement piece that has stood the test of time as that one item that never goes out of style. No matter how old you are and no matter what your general style maybe, scarves add a little something special to your look, whether it’s being used to add an accessory to your handbag or adding colour around your neck.

Mehreen Tanvir, of Ivory Emporium, will bring a collection of classic scarves from around the world to Lahore. The exhibition titled Luxe en Soie includes iconic pieces from the design houses of Hermès, Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Emilio Pucci, Etro, Celine, Givenchy, Versace, Chopard, Cartier, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Bvlgari, Fendi, Roberto Cavalli, Trussardi, Liberty of London, and Gucci.

Tanvir is a former development consultant living in Washington DC with a penchant for scarves. “The motivation to bring this collection to Pakistan was multifold,” says Tanvir, she feels that people in Pakistan have a keen fashion sense and appreciate latest trends and spend considerable amount of money on acquiring latest fads. “I am an economist by training and view the inherent value of things and justify my penchant for luxury products in their investment value and timelessness. The scarves included in Luxe en soie are
timeless classics and will be wardrobe staples that your granddaughters will vie for”.

After a decade of buying from a trove of trusted sources and auction houses from around the world the Ivory Emporium brought its first collection to Pakistan: a hand-selected collection of collector quality, high-end designer scarves.

n addition to contemporary designs, for a more discerning palate, the collection also includes rare and unique vintage pieces. With a Hermes scarf dating back to 1947 in the collection and others from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, the collection is a great way to analyse how mega design houses have evolved over time. “There are techniques that are no longer used in making scarves because they are too expensive to create now,” continues Tanvir, she adds that its rare to find jacquard or self-embossed woven fabrics these days and that makes these scarves truly special and unique. “I wanted to share my passion for becoming a collector of fine art and accessories and offer our services to those who have present collections or would like to start a personal collection. Money spent on classic high-end products is an investment if it has long-term value of an entity”.
